Carpinus betulus, or as it is more commonly known, 'Hornbeam' is a fantastic tree that will provide you with interest all year long.
Very similar to a Beech, the common hornbeam is a reliable and tough specimen that retains many of its leaves through winter, although it does tend lose a few more leaves than Beech.
Hornbeams have gorgeous, glossy green leaves during spring that give way to coppery leaves in winter, retaining its leaves all year round.
